Whether you’re working on the body, under the bonnet or the interior, Autobarn stock a great range of DIY internal and external customisation options for your car. So check out below for some useful tips on just how to achieve the look you want.

With any external work the best place to start is always the paintwork. A full respray can be necessary when restoring a classic or when the paint has simply seen better days. Having a professional do it is recommended, but there is nothing stopping you from ‘DIY’. Autobarn can mix paint for you in store, whether you have your paint code and want to keep in original or you’re after a new look entirely, speak with your local Autobarn staff and they’ll be happy to advise you.If your paint is still pristine, you have many other options available to you. Vinyl Wrap is fast becoming a great alternative to paint as it is removable and easy to apply. Often used to fully wrap entire cars it can also be used to create decals over the body. Almost anything can be wrapped the only limit is your imagination.

It’s not just the body that can be enhanced, your wheels are like the icing on a cake. Both wheels and callipers can be painted and Autobarn stocks a great range of VHT spray for doing just that. VHT calliper paint has been specifically designed for the custom detailing of brake components. It is heat resistant to 482°C (intermittent) and will not chip, crack, fade or rust under extremes of operation or road and weather conditions.

Wheel paint provides a great finish and real protection for all standard and custom wheels. Your wheels take a beating; gutter rash, stone chips, salt and brake dust can severely damage the appearance and protection of the wheel surface. Your wheels can really enhance the look of your car even with little done to the overall body, a fresh coat of paint on those beaten wheels will really improve the look of your car. Keep in mind following the instructions in preparation and application will give you the best result so don’t cut corners.

Adding body mesh behind the front bumper can hide the unsightly components and improve the look of your front bumper. With various colours available you can customise to compliment your paintwork.

If you’re looking for a little more air intake or that classic muscle car look, a hood scoop may be just what you’re after. Hood scoops are designed to either allow a flow of air to directly enter the engine compartment, or the appearance of doing so. It has only one opening and is closed on all other sides. Its main function is to allow a direct flow of air to the engine, hence the need for it to be upraised so as to effectively channel air to the engine compartment. It may be closed, and thus purely decorative. If you are looking to get more air into the engine bay it will require that you cut a suitable hole in the bonnet to allow for the air to flow freely in. However keep in mind the old adage measure twice, cut once, making a mistake here can be costly.
