    Cleaning Your Wheels

There are many ways to wash your wheels and clean your tyres.  The trick is to take your time and be sure to get those hard to reach places. Below is a step by step guide with some helpful hints to get the best results and bring back that "brand new" shine. Remember to head in to your local Autobarn store for all the right equipment and products!

    How to Clean Your Wheels

    1. Using a hose, completely soak the rim, tyre, inside the wheel arch and the body of the car that surrounds the wheel (this prevents any dirt on the car getting onto the rim whilst or after cleaning).
    2. Using a wheel/rim specific cleaner, completely squirt/soak the rim. These products are safe for the inside on the rim and on brakes so don’t be scared to make a mess!
    3. Using a wheel brush, wash cloth or sponge, give the wheel a good scrub to ensure all surfaces are completely washed. You may find it hard to get into some areas, such as inside the rim and the corners of the rim spokes, so you may find a wheel brush best for these parts. Working your way to the front of the rim, wash vigorously.
    4. Hose off with water and check for any missed spots!
    5. Using a wheel detailer, give the rim a very light spray holding the trigger around 15cm away from the rim and wipe down with a microfiber towel.
    6. For an even better look, give the wheels a light polish using a wheel polish (available at your local Autobarn). Using an applicator pad, wipe down the rim with the polish ensuring the whole rim is covered evenly. Then once finished wipe down the wheel again with a microfiber cloth to removes the excess polish.
    7. Using a tyre shine/tyre cleaner can help blacken the tyre and give it a shining new look, which helps the rim to stand-out. After ensuring the tyre is dry and clean, hold the can/bottle 15-20cm away from the tyre and spray evenly over the sides of the tyre, avoiding the tread. Allow to dry for 15 minutes and wipe any overspray on wheels or body of the car away with a clean dry cloth.
    8. Step back and enjoy your brand-new looking wheels!

    Helpful Hints

    • Using a Pressure Washer instead of a garden hose can help remove dirt and grime a lot easier.
    • When rinsing the wheels before wash, be sure to rinse the inside of the wheel arch as this is generally where most dirt builds up, along with the inside of the rim!
    • If you don’t want to get your hands dirty, be sure to use gloves, especially for the inside of the rim and wheel arch.
    • Keep rinsing your cloths/rags/sponges to ensure you are not washing the surface with dirt!
